Very early in the a.m. (around night-time), we commence our push to the meeting. This is the most emotionally and bodily challenging portion of the hike. The wind and cold at this advancement and time of day can be thrilling. We climb in the darkness for some hours while taking regular, but short, breaks. Near Stella Point (18,900 ft), you will be pleased with the most splendid sunrise you are ever probably to spot coming over Mawenzi Top. Lastly, we arrive at Uhuru Peak- the uppermost point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa.
From the high-level meeting, we now make our ancestry continuing straight down to the Mweka Hut camp place, ending at Barafu for lunch. The path is very stony and can be quite tough on the knees; hiking poles are obliging. Mweka Camp is located in the higher forest and mist or rain can be anticipated in the late afternoon. Later in the nightfall, we enjoy our last feast on the mountain and a well-deserved siesta.
